Peer Review in practice - European Peer Review Network

Peer Review partnerships 2017-2018

In 2014, the European Peer Review Network started its activities. A number of projects have been started since, focusing on the transfer of Peer Review to other educational sectors/areas of activity which also include transnational Peer Reviews.

We planned a first round of transnational European Peer Reviews in 2016 under the scheme of "small partnerships in Erasmus +, which will continue 2017 and 2018. Institutions of education and training are invited to indicate their interest in becoming part of this endeavour.

Who can participate?

Eligible institutions are institutions/providers of education and training from the following sectors:

  • Vocational education and training
  • Adult education
  • General education (schools)
  • Higher education
  • Guidance and counselling in education

If your institution does not fall within any of these categories or if in doubt about the classification of your institution, please contact us: info(at)peer-review-network.eu.

What kind of activities are foreseen?

The Network will support providers of education and training to form transnational partnerships and to conduct mutual Peer Reviews across Europe.

Institutions and partnerships that qualify will be included in the European register of peer reviewed institutions and awarded the European Peer Review label.

The European Peer Review Network will also organise Peer Review trainings.

What kind of partnerships are possible?

Partnerships should be formed according to the needs and interests of the partners involved. It is the involved institutions that decide who they want to cooperate with. Partnerships can, for instance, have a common topic at their core or they can be grouped according to the type of institution or sector involved.

A period of one to two years should be foreseen to prepare and conduct all Peer Reviews within the partnership.

For sake of receiving funding, the partnerships should also follow a common goal which goes beyond implementing Peer Review. So there should be a "double strategy": conducting Peer Reviews and working on one or more common topic(s) by using Peer Review.   More

How will the Peer Reviews be financed?

Quality assurance always requires resources from the institution itself.

Erasmus+ funding will be available for mobility and partnerships between institutions across Europe. These funds should cover project management, mobility costs and the costs for the training and the label. More

What are the next steps?

1) Online questionnaire

All institutions that are interested in participating in Peer Reviews are invited to indicate their interest by filling out a short online questionnaire.

Filling out this questionnaire is a pre-requisite for becoming part of the Peer Review partnerships. It does not, however, entail any kind of obligation on your part.

The online-questionnaire can be accessed her e.

Please note that we will only be possible to process questionnaires that have been filled out online.

2) European Peer Review Network

For EPRA members, the European Peer Review Network will support the organisation and financing of the transnational Peer Review projects. Please sign up if you are interested in becoming an EPRA member here

3) Partnership projects

Institutions that are members of the European Peer Review Network will receive support in finding partners and applying for funding.

Institutions that want to send Peers but do not want not conduct a Peer Review also need to indicate their interest at an early date since in Erasmus+ mobility funds will be awarded only to institutions (and not to individuals).
